Start with the news release Photodetector chip keeps transmission costs down from JDSU, which we summarised at the time by saying "In order to make APD chips affordable for the GPON market, JDSU usedits manufacturing expertise to create a new low-cost chip". Earlier in the week, we featured the news release Digital optocouplers have industrial specs from Avago Technologies: "Wide temperature optocouplers are extremely reliable and ideal for use in applications that operate in harsh industrial environments".
