The SPN Series of fully enclosed switch-mode power supplies is manufactured by Volgen in Japan and aimed at industrial markets where long-term reliability is important.
The units are also low-cost.
For example, a 1kW unit is priced at under GBP 250 in single quantities.
The high reliability of the units allows them to be supplied with a three-year warranty as standard.
An Excelsys 3gen power supply design can be based on a four-slot chassis with a 400 or 600W front end, or a six-slot chassis with a 600 or 1000W front end.
Each slot accommodates one of a wide range of single- or dual-output modules, allowing a complete supply to offer up to 12 outputs.
Voltages available from the output modules range from 1.45 to 59V, variable in 0.1V increments.
Also available from Acal is the Excelsys 3med range, which offers the same input and output options but with full safety agency approvals for medical applications.
By redesigning the 3gen range at component and board level, Excelsys has produced a supply that meets the leakage requirements of EN60601 while still meeting the EMI requirements of EN55022 Class A for the four-slot variant and EN55022 Class B for the six-slot version.
A further variant offers an ultra-low leakage current of less than 150uA, allowing it to be used in redundant or parallel systems while still meeting the 500uA leakage specification of EN60601.
Excelsys also provides support for users in other specialised markets.
For example, for professional audio applications, Excelsys provides the design of an external filter, allowing users to produce their own circuits to bring ripple levels down from 50 to 1mV on the 5V output and from 120 to 3mV on the 12V output.
