One of the industry's fastest 16bit ADCs is just one of a new range of "mega-high-speed" analogue devices available now from Abacus Polar.

One of the industry's fastest 16bit ADCs is just one of a new range of "mega-high-speed" analogue device added by Abacus Polar, with exceptional performance specifically targeted at demanding instrumentation, video and communication applications ADCs from Fairchild offering up to 1Gsample/s sample rates, DACs handling 400Mword/s conversions, and comparators offering a propagation delay of just 650ps are just three of the devices now supported by Abacus Polar

The additions follow the acquisition last year of Signal Processing Technologies by its supplier, Fairchild Semiconductor.

Instrumentation, video and communication applications require very high speed sampling, and ADC devices such as Fairchild's SPT8100 from Abacus Polar are ideal for these applications.

It is one of the industry's fastest 16bit, self-calibrating ADC devices, offering a sample rate of 5Msample/s yet drawing only 465mW of power.

The SPT8120 offers 20Msample/s at 16bit resolution, and still only consumes 725W.

The Fairchild ADC range now supported by Abacus also includes parts with resolutions from 6 to 16bit, TTL, ECL, CMOS or serial outputs, and sample rates from 2.5Msample/s (for serial output) to 1Gsample/s (for ECL, at 6bit).

Similarly, the range of Fairchild DACs from Abacus Polar offer a combination of excellent high-speed performance allied to low power consumption.

For example, the SPT5510 offers 200Mword/s conversion rate at 16bit, and one of the fastest settling times in the industry: just 35ns at 16bit.

The SPT5510 offers true 16bit linearity, on-chip reference, ECL compatibility, and power dissipation of only 600mW.

For applications requiring higher performance, Abacus Polar is offering DACs with conversion rates of 400Mword/s at 10bit resolution.

For high-speed edge detection in instrumentation and automatic test equipment (ATE), Abacus Polar's new range of Fairchild comparators includes three dual comparator devices., the SPT987 offers 2ns propagation delay whilst only consuming 185mW, the SPT9689 is the fastest comparator in the portfolio, with a propagation delay of just 650ps, whilst the SPT9693 offers JFET inputs for reduced bias currents and a wide common mode input range of -3 to +8V.
