Abacus Embedded Systems Group is providing technical and financial sponsorship to Pandarama, a project to help impoverished rural communities in Mongolia.

Abacus Embedded Systems Group (ESG) is helping one and a half Fiat Pandas reach Mongolia, by offering technical and financial sponsorship to Pandarama, a project to help impoverished rural communities in Mongolia Pandarama is participating in the Mongol Rally, a 13,000km hike from Hyde Park, London to Ulanbataar in Mongolia, in vehicles with no more than 1000cm3 under the bonnet

Each vehicle has to raise at least GBP 1000, which will go to MercyCrops, Send-a-Cow and other excellent Mongolian causes.

This year about 200 vehicles will leave Hyde Park on 22nd July, raising an estimated GBP 0.25 million.

ESG has provided the initial donation of GBP 1000 to support the entry by Roger and Sam Greenhalgh of Pandarama, and is also providing embedded technology to drive the onboard data logging computer that will provide an electronic record of the trip.

Nick Donaldson, General Manager of ESG said: "We're 100% with Pandarama - what they're involved in is a very interesting challenge in aid of some extremely worthwhile charities - and they needed a Microsoft embedded operating system to make it happen".

"We couldn't resist the opportunity - and wish them every success on their journey".

Sam Greenhalgh responded: "It's fantastic news that Abacus ESG has been able to provide the GBP 1000 donation we needed to guarantee participation".

"It's the start of what we trust will be a flood of donations".

"Their technical support in making our solid state computer work has been invaluable too".

Pandarama is using a solid state computer to record the journey, logging images of the trip every 90 seconds, and stamping them with location and time information from a Garmin GPS.

To do this reliably, it replaced the hard disk drive of the PC with a CompactFlash card.

This meant replacing the 3Gbyte XP Professional image that came with the PC with something much more compact, that would boot from a CF card.

ESG offered XP Embedded, which fitted the bill perfectly.
