Developers' package enables embedded software designers to evaluate Texas Instruments' ARM-based DaVinci in the context of WindowsCE 6.0.

Abacus Embedded has launched a DaVinci-CE developers' package - an Abacus product that ships with an exclusive MPC DaVinci WinCE board support package It also includes four hours consultancy from MPC Data, a Microsoft Embedded Gold Partner, and a TI DaVinci Authorised Software Provider

The Abacus DaVinci-CE Developers' Package enables embedded software designers to evaluate Texas Instruments' ARM-based DaVinci in the context of WindowsCE 6.0, the latest version of Microsoft's componentised real-time operating system.

In one box, it supplies everything a designer requires to start work on embedded multimedia systems including videophones, set top boxes, video security and surveillance systems and other digital video products.

Commenting, Nick Donaldson, General Manager, Abacus Embedded said: "DaVinci-CE is an out-of-the-box solution to start developing digital video applications such as infotainment appliances, videophones and security systems based on silicon and software from two world leaders".

"Combining support for Microsoft Internet Explorer and Media Player in one box with audio and video codecs from Texas Instruments produces a unique and exceptionally powerful platform for developing creative embedded multimedia solutions".

In addition to the Abacus WinCE Board Support Package, exclusive features of the Abacus DaVinci-CE Developers Kit include a 120-day evaluation version of WinCE platform builder, 4 hours of technical consultancy from Abacus partner MPC Data and a discount voucher for training workshops.

The kit ships complete with all the Texas Instruments hardware of the standard DaVinci EVM, including a DM6446 device, a 40Gbyte HDD, a Pal camera, an LCD screen, speakers, microphone and IR remote.

Evaluation codecs available include H.264, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AAC+ and G7.11.
