Abacus can supply two versions of Windows XP operating system in the embedded market: Windows XP Embedded and Windows XP Professional for embedded systems.
Windows XP Embedded is a componentised version of the XP Professional, allowing developers the opportunity to eliminate features not required in their application.
Windows XP Embedded gives developers the flexibility to assemble an operating system image that meets their footprint requirements while ensuring that the operating system's dependencies and functionality are maintained.
XP Embedded can be installed without the need for activation.
It requires no certification of the application and has no minimum volume commitment.
Microsoft Windows XP Professional for embedded systems from Abacus Embedded offers developers the full XP Professional code, with licensing features that better meet the requirements of the embedded environment.
In addition to support beyond the end of the software's desktop life, these include the ability to add a custom boot logo, for branding purposes and to mask the Operating System from the user.
Other features of XP Professional for embedded systems include the ability to create multilingual platforms, its hardware independence, the ability to pre-activate before shipping and continued availability.
The embedded licence also allows a third-party company, such as a systems integrator or subcontract manufacturer, to install the operating system on behalf of the licence holder.
