The treatment plant has been upgraded to comply with new legislation and process water from Loch Lomond, providing drinking water to central Scotland.
In the event of a mains power failure all essential services can be supported by the UPS, giving time for the emergency generator to come on line.
Should the generator then fail to start the UPS system will provide power to the plant's SCADA system and enable critical process valves to be closed to stop the flow of water through the plant.
A 15kVA UPS system supports the plant's critical functions, providing a three-phase supply at 415V.
A further four 10kVA UPS systems supplying single phase 240V are used to support the plant's computer systems.
"ESW has an ongoing programme to improve the water supply from Loch Lomond," says Willie Thomson, Water Supply and Treatment Manager, North, at ESW, adding, "ABB have been selected because they can provide the right package at the best price.".
