AC drives range to new applications
ABB has extended the range of one of the key elements in its ACS 600 drives family, by introducing new IGBT supply unit frame sizes.
ABB has a wide range of standard squirrel cage and brake motors which can be supplied in combination with the ACS 160.
The standard motors meet the requirements for the top two classes (EFF1 or EFF2) in the EU energy efficiency labelling scheme.
EFF1 motors provide the highest efficiency and lowest life cycle cost, and a wide selection of variants is available.
With its many built-in features and integral options, the ACS160 drive is modular in design and compact in size.
Its availability with a built-in RFI filter ensures that it can meet the highest EMC requirements, and integral fieldbus adapters mean it can be readily integrated with all major automation systems.
For applications where braking is needed, integral brake resistors and the ability to control an electromechanical brake offer a convenient solution.
With the addition of an incremental encoder, the drive's positioning macro even makes simple positioning applications possible.
DriveWEB, a unique option from ABB which uses Internet or intranet and WAP technology, enables users to remotely monitor and control drive functions.
These features and options make the ACS160 drive an ideal solution for conveyors, packing machines, pumps and fans, and other equipment.
The ACS 160 has also been designed for easy retrofitting on an existing fixed speed motor.
Mounting kits will be available for a wide selection of common motors from ABB and other manufacturers.
The main advantage of motor mounting is that it reduces installation times and costs, as it avoids the need for drive cubicles and separate drive and motor cabling.
When the same high performance is required but space around the motor is limited, the ACS160 drive can be wall mounted.
ACS 160 drives are standard Comp-AC frequency convertors rated 0.55-2.2kW (380-480/500V +/-10%), and they meet the requirements of the IP65 protection class.
Integral drive and motor packages by ABB are available with standard and brake motors in frame sizes 71-100.
ACS160 drives are produced in two different versions according to the customer's EMC requirements.
For applications where the highest EMC requirements have to be met, the drives can be supplied with a built-in RFI filter.
In industrial environments and in floating networks the drives can be used without an RFI filter.
