Acal Electronics has been appointed as exclusive distributor for the UK and Ireland for the ranges of low-cost industrial embedded processing systems designed and manufactured by Seco of Italy.

The Microsystems Division of Acal Electronics has been appointed as exclusive distributor for the UK and Ireland for the ranges of low-cost industrial embedded processing systems designed and manufactured by Seco of Italy Seco produces a wide range of systems, including single-board computers, PC/104 and PC/104-Plus form-factor CPU and expansion modules, ISA boards, Eurocards, industrial workstations and panel PCs, all-in-one LCD PCs and custom products designed to meet customer specifications

Seco has an established market presence in Italy, Germany, France and the USA, and now sees the potential to grow in the UK and Irish markets via Acal.

The company offers standard products and full custom designs for high volumes.

It will also customise standard products for volumes of fewer than 100, where feasible.

SECO designs all its products with a view to keeping prices to the absolute minimum, while still offering a broad range of features and high reliability.

It offers a quick response on viability of a proposed requirement, plus quick turn-round of product.

Its production capability allows it to ship up to 25,000 units per year.

Typical of Seco's PC/104 products are the M515 and M453.

The M515 is a low-power board based on the Geode GXLV or GXI processor, running at 200 or 233MHz, respectively.

It has been designed specifically for high-level embedded applications where reliability, low power, long-term availability and competitive price are important.

The board integrates all the standard peripherals found on a normal PC, including: graphics controllers for TFT flat panels and CRT monitors; an LVDS interface, which allows TFT LCDs to be driven at a distance of 10m; Fast Ethernet; USB; and audio.

It can communicate with other peripheral boards via the ISA bus (PC/104) and the PCI bus (PC/104 Plus).

The M543 is based on AMD's Elan SC520 processor, running at 100 or 133MHz.

It integrates a 10/100BaseT Ethernet controller, four serial ports, a parallel port, floppy and hard disk controllers, and sockets for a solid-state disk and keyboard.

It can be used stand-alone or in a PC/104 stack.

As with all Seco systems, the M515 and M543 are priced competitively, at under GBP 220 and GBP 170, respectively, in 100-off quantities.
