Actel Europe has signed up Acal as the distributor to extend its reach further into Europe Effective immediately, Acal will provide dedicated distribution and field programmable gate array (FPGA) support for all Actel products

In particular, Acal field application engineers (FAEs) will be trained on the latest Flash-based, secure, single chip reprogrammable FPGAs and the latest radiation tolerant space FPGAs, which are of great interest in these market places.

Vaughan Price, Managing Director of Actel Europe, said: "Actel have been working with Acal Distribution very successfully for over 10 years.

Acal provide a very focused design-in model that is very effective in selling FPGA products.

With the uptake of our new Flash-based reprogrammable FPGAs, his strong local design support will be very successful in growing the FPGA business for both companies".

Tony Laughton, CEO of Acal added: "We are delighted by Actel's decision to enlarge our geographical coverage.

I believe that this move is in recognition of the achievements and effectiveness of Acal's design-in/demand creation model, evidenced by long-term Acal Technology success.

Actel's ProASIC Plus Flash FPGAs are ideal for the markets and customers that the Acal operations in Benelux, Scandinavia and the Iberian Peninsula already address".

Actel's ProASIC Plus Flash products offer the lowest cost FPGA solution in the market place.

They also provide the only secure, single chip, reprogrammable FPGA solution available today.

These devices are ideally suited for consumer and "secure" applications.

"A huge surge in volume demand is coming from markets such as the games industry, set top box manufacturing, point of sale equipment and mobile/wireless technology.

All these markets demand lowest cost, high security and rapid volume ramp up, a great match for our Flash based FPGAs", concluded Price.
