FPGA family promises more for less
Low-power field-programmable gate arrays claim the industry's best power-, area-, logic- and feature-per-I/O ratios in a programmable device.
Azzurri will replace Memec Unique, one of Actel's current distributors in the UK.
"Due to a line conflict within Memec Unique, it was not appropriate to bring our new reprogrammable FPGAs to market without having in place a dedicated sales channel", said Vaughan Price, European Managing Director for Actel.
The deal, which runs from 1st December 2004, is designed to give Actel better access to the telecomms, broadcast, video and storage markets where Azzurri is particularly strong.
For the Azzuri, it adds a complementary product line to strengthen their semiconductor offering to customers in these markets and others.
Price added: "Azzurri is one of the few remaining truly technical distributors".
"They have a particularly strong technical sales team consisting entirely of electronics engineers and this is vital as we continue to educate the market with respect to the huge security and 'total solution' cost benefits of Flash FPGAs".
For Azzurri, President and CEO Mike Carlucci added: "Actel are a highly regarded company with a great product range".
"Flash is set to take increasing market share from the SRAM-based FPGA vendors and we can't think of a better company to be with at a time when programmable logic is a buoyant business in the UK and throughout the rest of Europe".
Azzurri is dedicating two senior staff to the Actel line - a sales engineer and an applications engineer.
Unique Memec will cease to represent Actel from the end of 2004.
