Video board embeds four into one

An Advanced Micro Peripherals product story

Low power PC/104 board combines up to four NTSC/Pal video inputs with blended text and graphics overlay into a single composite video output.

The VMIX104 is single low power PC/104 board that combines up to four NTSC/Pal video inputs with blended text and graphics overlay into a single composite video output.

This high quality Pal/NTSC output signal is suitable for displaying up to four live video windows on a wide range of display devices.

The VMIX104 can process up to four concurrent inputs from up to eight cameras, VCRs or other video sources.

The board can resise, crop, reposition or overlay these inputs, as well as alpha-blending them with computer generated text and graphics.

The VMIX104 features a high degree of video overlay flexibility, with side-by-side, quadrant display, picture-in-picture and other viewing modes.

Titles and borders can be configured for each of the four windows, and True-Type fonts are supported.

Other effects include pan, zoom and scaling, also vertical and horizontal mirroring on each channel.

The VMIX104 relieves the system CPU of computer-intensive video processing, allowing hosting by a low end computer over a standard 8/16bit PC/104 bus.

This together with the board's own low power demand greatly eases the design of compact, low power fanless systems that deliver high performance video processing.

The four concurrent input channels accept Pal/NTSC or RS170 video and use digital line-lock technology to ensure reliable locking to any video source.

The inputs can be adjusted for contrast, saturation and brightness.

The output is Pal/NTSC Composite Video or S-Video, or RS170 Video.

The VMIX104 operates on a single +5V power supply, drawing less than 800mA.

An Extended Temperature version of the board with an operating range from -40 to +85C is available.

Both versions are on a standard PC/104 (3.6 x 3.8in) form factor.

The board is supported by a suite of drivers for Windows NT/2000/XP and Linux.

A sample video overlay application written in C/C++ source code is also provided.

Typical applications include remote video inspection, remote vehicle applications, security and surveillance, control rooms, medical operating theatres, POS monitoring, traffic monitoring and control, and loss prevention.
