An automatic component taping system is claimed to offer users outstanding flexibility and exceptional reliability.

The latest electronic production solution from automation specialist AdaptSys is an automatic component taping system claimed to offer users outstanding flexibility and exceptional reliability The V-Tek TM-4450 is a compact, fully automatic evolution of this global leader's well known family of packaging systems for electronic components

Capable of taping up to 4500 devices per hour from either bowl or stick feeders (dependent on device form and type) the system is controlled by its own sophisticated PLC (programmable logic controller) with a touch-screen operator control interface.

This allows a large number of adjustments to be made clearly, quickly and easily.

Standard on-screen functions include: run mode/setup mode, device counter and batch size, sealer dwell adjustment, manual/automatic leader/trailer, job capabilities and head override for head setup purposes.

Although designed for fully automatic operation, the system can be operated manually, or controlled from a remote PC.

A "universal" component feeder within the TM-4450 features a wide range of tooling options, making it suitable for virtually every family of electronic component.

Interchangeable tooling allows for quick changeover/setup, and components can be rotated through +/-90 or 180 degrees.

Intricate tube fed components, such as SOICs, SOJs and PLCCs, are handled with ease by the versatile feeder arrangements, which feature a cleverly designed nest shuttle mechanism After selection and orientation, components are then tape mounted using a dual stage low noise sealing mechanism, which is universally adjustable for both heat and PSA sealing techniques and tape widths from 8 to 72mm.

High quality throughput is maintained using standard empty pocket detector and jam in track sensors.

The highly flexible combination of universal feeder and dual capability taping system makes the TM-4450 particularly suitable for demanding production environments which require quick changeover times and reliable setup procedures.

The TM-4450 also benefits from a range of powerful add-on options, which include an in-feeder vision inspection for mark, orientation and implied coplanarity, and a "reject into tube" facility for reject parts mounted in 12 to 44mm carrier tape.
