Hero Electronics has signed a sales and marketing agreement for the UK and Ireland with WizNET for the world's first and only hard-wired peripheral TCP/IP solution, the i2Chip Designed in Silicon Valley by its subsidiary i2Chip the technology is implemented at all levels: silicon chip, embedded modules, ASIC and IP core

Connecting products to an Ethernet network normally requires a powerful processor and complex driver software to handle the network protocols, as Tim Netherwood, Product Manager at Hero comments: "The WizNET chip has all the necessary TCP/IP protocols implemented in silicon, so eliminating the high cost and complexity of software based Ethernet connectivity.

This technology will allow the simple addition of Ethernet and Internet access to very simple products using an 8bit data, serial RS232 or I2C bus interface".

Among the many applications for this versatile chip are remote accesses via the Internet or LANs, for example cameras, building security and control, data gathering, medical devices, vending machines; consumer appliances such as telephones, microwaves, refrigerators, washing machines, lighting controls and set-top boxes.
