BSP aids development of Windows Embedded CE-based applications on Atmel's AT91CAP9 customisable microcontroller, built around the industry-standard ARM926EJ-S processor.

Adeneo has developed a Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 board support package (BSP) for Atmel's AT91CAP9A-STK starter kit and AT91CAP9A-DK development kit This BSP facilitates the development of Windows Embedded CE-based applications on Atmel's AT91CAP9 customisable microcontroller, built around the industry-standard ARM926EJ-S processor

The BSP consists of a fully supported Windows Embedded CE 6.0 kernel ported onto the AT91CAP9 architecture, with drivers for all the CAPO peripherals and external interfaces.

Drivers for the additional functional modules implemented in the CAP metal programmable (MP) block can be seamlessly integrated.

In addition, Adeneo has been integrally involved in the design and production of the AT91CAP9A-STK starter kit.

This close collaboration enables Adeneo to provide in-depth support to customers using the AT91CAP9A-STK/ Windows Embedded CE 6.0 BSP combination, and to produce customer-specific CAP development boards on request.

Michel Le Lan, Atmel's Marketing Director for ASIC products, comments: "Adeneo's Windows Embedded CE BSP for the CAP development and starter kits is a major step towards our goal of simplifying application development for CAP customers".

"A fully featured operating system like Windows Embedded CE enables CAP applications to fully exploit the potential of CAP's multiple peripherals and interfaces with a minimum programming overhead".

"Adeneo's expertise and many years of experience in Windows Embedded CE porting and support will help to reduce the programming effort and expense required to get these applications running".

Nicolas Coudert, Windows Embedded Marketing Manager at Adeneo, adds: "This is a major project for Adeneo and an excellent opportunity to show both our hardware and our software expertise".

"We are available to further reduce time to market with our ability to customise CAP development boards and manufacture them for our customers".

"Beyond the development of the starter kit and the reference BSP for the CAP9 platform, Adeneo's engineering offices in France and in the US, with a strong expertise on CAP9 architecture and Windows Embedded CE, are keys to success for OEMs willing to secure their design with the best time to market".

Atmel's CAP is an ARM microcontroller-based system-on-chip with fast local memory, a wide range of industry-standard peripherals and interfaces, and a metal programmable (MP) block that allows the designer to add custom logic.

By combining the performance, density and low power consumption of the fixed portion of the device with the flexibility of the MP block, CAP enables application-specific products to be developed in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost of standard-cell ASICs, but at a unit price close to that of standard cell devices.

CAP's metal programmable block can be personalised with IP cores from Atmel's extensive library of product-tested functions, or from accredited third parties, or with cores developed by the CAP customer to give the application-specific product its competitive edge.

CAP also offers superior performance, smaller form factor and lower power consumption at a unit price significantly lower than an MCU-plus-FPGA combination for the same functionality.

CAP is fully supported with an emulation board, software development tools, operating systems and code modules to facilitate application software development.

A free binary evaluation version of the AT91CAP9 BSP is available for download from Adeneo's website.

A full source code set is also available from the same website, for a free 20-day evaluation period under nondisclosure agreement.

Adeneo distributes the BSP royalty-free for a one-time licence fee.
