Antenova's pioneering development of a new form of antenna for wireless communications, has won it the "Spirit of ingenuity" award category of Business Weekly's Business Awards.

Sponsored by the East of England Development Agency, this award honours innovative thinking that makes a difference in the way we work and the quality of our lives.

This is a tribute to the Cambridge-based Antenova organisation, a 36-strong team which has transformed the scientific curiosity of "dielectric resonance" into a technology that is helping to turn the hype of the wireless revolution into fact.

Dielectric resonance allows antennas to be made from tiny pieces of ceramic that may be mounted inside the cases of tomorrow's wireless gadgets and devices, yet offer performance that today's antennas cannot - allowing "mobile video" to actually be realised in low cost handsets, to cite one possibility.

"The antenna is a cornerstone of all wireless products, yet has changed little in decades", says Greg McCray of Antenova.

"We are particularly pleased to have gained this award.

It's a great recognition of the three years of effort that Antenova's staff have put in to develop something that looks so small and simple, yet can do so much".

Antenova is currently working with dozens of major global companies from all walks of wireless life - from mobile phones and basestations to wireless LANs.

By next year the company expects that many examples of everyday wireless products will be on the market with its new antennas.
