Committed to supporting environmentally friendly initiatives, Altera began lead-free product development in 2000 and began shipping production quantities to customers in 2002.
All of Altera's lead-free products meet the requirements of the European Union RoHS Directive, an initiative to reduce the content of hazardous substances in electronic equipment.
They also meet the requirements of Japan's Ministry of Trade and Industry (MITI) to use only lead-free solder in all new products.
"The availability of devices in lead-free packages is becoming an increasingly important decision criterion for many customer designs", said David Greenfield, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Altera.
"The breadth of Altera's lead-free product portfolio provides a compelling solution for customers transitioning to these environmentally friendly products".
Altera's lead-free package offerings include the Stratix, Stratix GX, Cyclone, Apex, Acex, Flex, Mercury, Max and configuration device families.
Altera will offer lead-free solutions for all future FPGA and CPLD product families.
