Agilent recognised in new lab at UCL
University College London is the home of the new Agilent Broadband Communications Laboratory.
University College London is the home of the new Agilent Broadband Communications Laboratory, named in recognition of support from Agilent, including over a million dollars worth of funding for equipment and projects over the last year.
The funding has come from Agilent's Worldwide University Philanthropy Programme along with direct funds from Agilent's Ipswich components operation.
The new laboratory was opened on the evening of the prestigious Barlow Lecture by John Ure, site manager at Agilent's Ipswich components operation.
Commenting on the new facility, Prof Sir Chris Llewellyn-Smith, Provost and President of UCL said: "The new Agilent Broadband Communications Laboratory will play an integral part in delivering our new masters training package in technologies for broadband communications.
UCL's track record of breakthroughs in the development of communications technology means that we are one of the best placed institutions in the UK to lead future advances needed to support new applications requirements that will cement the arrival of a genuine information society".
In addition to the equipment provided, Agilent have given support for a number of other projects, including: paying for two fully funded PhD students who will be working on advanced optical systems; donating devices/equipment and engineering time to three EPSRC/DTI funded projects; support for a new Masters Training Package in terms of giving lectures, strategic direction and teaching materials; and providing summer work for placement students.
More recently, Agilent announced an agreement in excess of half a million dollars to support an academic head at the newly opened UCL at Adastral Park facility, which is UCL's new Research and Postgraduate Centre located at Adastral Park, the home of BTexaCT, BT's advanced research and technology business near Ipswich.
