Semiconductor Insights has awarded Agilent's film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) duplexer the 2002 Insight award for most innovative communications semiconductor product.

The annual Insight award recognises outstanding semiconductor companies for exhibiting technical innovation in a commercial product.

Agilent is increasing production of the FBAR duplexer to satisfy the growing demand of wireless phone manufacturers who want to design smaller, trimmer handsets.

Three top CDMA handset manufacturers have all designed in FBAR products into their next-generation PCS-band phones.

Agilent is now putting in place capacity to serve 75% of US demand for CDMA duplexers by the fourth quarter of this year.

"Wireless communications products such as cellphones are demanding greater capabilities and smaller size.

Agilent's FBAR duplexer is designed to replace the traditional ceramic duplexer - one of the largest components on a cellphone board", said Derek Nuhn, vice president and COO at Semiconductor Insights.

"Agilent's product substantially reduces the footprint required to fulfil the duplexing function".
