The Agilent MGA-545P8 is an E-pHEMT medium-power amplifier RFIC for 5 to 6GHz wireless LAN access points, network interface cards and fixed wireless applications.

It is designed to reduce board space and satisfy the demand for compact wireless equipment that consumes the lowest possible power.

The MGA-545P8 is the industry's lowest current medium-power amplifier and is based on Agilent's 0.5-micron gate length E-pHEMT process.

It operates at a very low current of 92mA at 3.3V, providing a saturated output power of +22dBm with very high power-added efficiency at 46%.

This makes it an excellent choice as a power amplifier for 5 to 6GHz broadband fixed wireless access applications that employ a constant envelope modulation scheme.

When used as a linear power amplifier, the Agilent MGA-545P8 provides +16dBm linear output power for an error vector magnitude of 5.6% at a datarate of 54Mbit/s.

This makes it ideal for use as a power amplifier in APs and NICs for 802.11a networks in the 5.8GHz UNII (unlicensed national information infrastructure) band in the USA and networks operating under the 5GHz HiperLAN/2 (high performance radio local area network) in Europe.

With the broadband P1dB performance above +20dBm across 1 to 6GHz, the MGA-545P8 can be used as a driver amplifier, power amplifier and buffer amplifier for basestation radio cards, 2.4GHz ISM band, wireless local loop, C-band VSAT and microwave links.

The MGA-545P8 E-pHEMT RFIC is available now housed in the compact 2.0 x 2.0 x 0.75mm 8-pad industry-standard leadless plastic chip carrier JEDEC DRP-N LPCC package.

The package's lead-free backside metallisation provides excellent thermal dissipation as well as visual evidence of solder reflow.
