Two new small form factor pluggable (SFP) fibre-optic transceiver modules are designed for use in Fibre Channel storage networks and enterprise networks.

The new Agilent devices offer tri- and multirate operation and include the SFF-8472 MSA-compliant digital diagnostic interface.

This interface provides real-time monitoring of the transceivers temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, transmitted optical power and received optical power.

It quickly isolates faults to specific locations in the fibre optics link to simplify maintenance and enhance system reliability.

The Agilent HFBR-57M5AP trirate SFP transceiver was designed to provide a cost-effective, high-performance solution for 2.125 and 1.0625Gbit/s Fibre Channel, and 1.25Git/s Ethernet applications.

The device's trirate operation enables OEMs to consolidate part numbers, using one device for multiple applications.

The device is ideally suited for supplying the optical interface to Fibre Channel fabric and director class switches, storage array controllers, RAID and tape drives, and it meets the emerging multiprotocol requirements of the enterprise and metro markets.

The Agilent HFBR-57L5AP multirate SFP was designed for 1.0625Git/s Fibre Channel and 1.25Gbit/s Ethernet applications.

The device is targeted at Enterprise switches, such as layer 2 and 3 Ethernet switches, host bus adapters, and multi-protocol edge routers for metropolitan networks.

The Agilent HFBR-57M5AP and HFBR-57L5AP SFP transceivers offer extended operating temperature and voltage specifications, and include a bail delatch mechanism that eases the process of unplugging the transceiver.

Their extended operating temperature range reduces the need for system cooling, and their extended operating voltage simplifies board layout and power supply design.

The Agilent SFP transceivers are "hot-pluggable," meaning they can be inserted or removed from a board without shutting off power.

This benefit is critical to the storage network switch environments that cannot afford system downtime for online transaction processing applications.

Agilent customers can add fibre-optic ports, replace fibre-optic transceivers, and scale their systems when needed without interrupting network services.

Additionally, this helps to reduce inventory costs by allowing units to be stocked without optical transceivers.

Designed for multimode applications up to 550m, Agilent's SFP fibre optic transceivers operate at 3.3V +/-10% and are supplied in the industry-standard SFP package with the LC-duplex connector.

The transceivers use 850nm VCSEL lasers and offer an extended operating temperature range of -10 to +85C.

Superior EMI performance aids customers in complying with FCC standards.

The Agilent HFBR-57M5AP and the HFBR-57L5AP fibre-optic transceivers are immediately available through Agilent's direct sales channel, and through Agilent's worldwide distribution partners.
