Ambient light sensor saves backlight
power
The HSDL-9000 ambient light photosensor detects the amount of light at any given time and sends a signal to adjust the backlighting as necessary in a mobile screen or keypad.
The HSDL-9000 ambient light photosensor detects the amount of light at any given time and sends a signal to adjust the backlighting as necessary in a mobile screen or keypad When there is sufficient ambient light, the backlighting is not turned on, thereby extending battery life in mobile electronic devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and laptop computers

Hot-pluggable transceiver for Fibre Channel
Agilent Technologies has announced volume availability of its 2Gbit/s small-form-pluggable (SFP) fibre-optic transceiver for Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs).
Agilent's new device outperforms silicon photodiode light detection solutions because its spectral response peaks at the same frequency (550nm) as the human eye.
It accurately predicts when backlighting is needed to be able to see a display clearly, especially in different light sources such as fluorescent and halogen.
The Agilent HSDL-9000 performs equally well with all light sources, and, as backlighting is only necessary about 40% of the time, the new device can add significant time between battery recharges.
This is especially important considering the growing use of colour LCDs that consume much more power than monochrome displays.
The HSDL-9000 offers impressive performance and a list of features that simplify and expedite mobile appliance design: integrated lowpass filter and quantiser speed response to conserve CPU resources and reduce component count; three-step programmable digital gain settings along with analogue gain settings for greater flexibility; and allowance for auto-flash and variable brightness control.
The HSDL-9000 is available today from Agilent and its authorised distribution partners.
It is housed in a lead-free package measuring only 1.1 x 4.0 x 3.2mm. Request a free brochure from Avago Technologies ...
