Hot-pluggable transceiver for Fibre Channel
Agilent Technologies has announced volume availability of its 2Gbit/s small-form-pluggable (SFP) fibre-optic transceiver for Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs).
Agilent's end-to-end product family enables systems that allow data centres to easily scale their computing resources using off-the-shelf server technology.
In addition, InfiniBand solutions provide high bandwidth and low latency communication between servers and storage and networking equipment.
The Agilent InfiniBand new product family includes a second-generation 12x/4x InfiniBand switch chip with each 4x port running at 10Gbit/s and each 12x port running at 30Gbit/s.
The chip architecture is a highly scaled up version of the Agilent HDMP-2840, which delivers high bandwidth, leading pin-to-pin latency, and high-efficiency switching with extensive QoS capabilities.
The new Agilent switch chip is designed to be compliant to the InfiniBand 1.1 specification and is designed to maintain high levels of efficiency across packet sizes.
This advanced switch architecture takes advantage of Agilent's high-performance embedded serialiser/deserialiser technology.
Another addition to Agilent's InfiniBand family is a high-performance integrated channel adapter chip that provides connections from an InfiniBand network to the emerging high-throughput bus standards being developed for next-generation servers and storage devices.
In addition to bringing a significantly higher level of throughput for the host or target device to the InfiniBand fabric, this channel adapter architecture integrates a significant amount of enterprise-grade data integrity features to ensure the highest level of data reliability during network communication.
Agilent expects to offer initial samples of these InfiniBand products in early 2004 and plans to announce pricing at that time.
An early supporter of InfiniBand technology, Agilent has a wide array of InfiniBand products ranging from test equipment and tools supporting development of the technology to InfiniBand silicon. Request a free brochure from Avago Technologies ...
