Hot-pluggable transceiver for Fibre Channel
Agilent Technologies has announced volume availability of its 2Gbit/s small-form-pluggable (SFP) fibre-optic transceiver for Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs).
The Agilent ACMD-7401 and ACPF-7002 are the industry's smallest film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) duplexer and full-band transmit filter for handsets, data cards and other wireless products operating in the US PCS frequency band.
The ACMD-7401 and ACPF-7002 are the first products built with Agilent's innovative Microcap bonded-wafer chip scale packaging technology.
Microcap technology allows the ultrasmall filters to be assembled in a moulded-chip-on-board module that is less than 1.4mm high with a 5 x 5mm footprint, less than one-tenth the volume of competing ceramic duplexers.

IR transceiver slims down to fit latest PDAs
Agilent Technologies has announced a new serial infra-red (SIR) transceiver that is ideal for new-generation personal information devices, such as PDAs, which are becoming increasingly thinner.
"Agilent Technologies has now proven the technology that was seven years in R and D, and can deliver parts of the quantity, quality and ruggedness that the industry demands", said Paul McGoldrick, Editor in Chief of AnalogZone.
"It is now in a position to develop the uses of the Microcap technology, to move to lower frequencies and to finally be in a position to boot SAW filters out of the last bastion they have in GSM handsets".
The ACMD-7401 FBAR is 66% smaller than Agilent's first-generation HPMD-7904 FBAR duplexer.
The FBAR duplexer and filter are designed into nine of the top 10 CDMA phone manufacturers' handsets for the US PCS market, with more than 6 million FBAR duplexers/filters shipping each month.
Duplexers play a critical role in CDMA handsets and data cards by separating incoming communications from outgoing communications to allow for simultaneous two-way voice or data transmission.
"We are honoured to receive this prestigious award from AnalogZone", said Bryan Ingram, Vice President and General Manager of Agilent's Wireless Semiconductor Division in Agilent's Semiconductor Products Group.
"The award confirms our commitment to deliver products that push the size and performance envelope, enabling our customers to design even slimmer, feature-rich mobile phones and data cards".
At 1.0mm high with a 1.6 x 2.0mm footprint, the Agilent ACPF-7002 is the industry's smallest FBAR full-band transmit filter.
The ACPF-7002 eliminates the need for a second filter, a radio-frequency switch and associated passive components.
This reduces the printed circuit board area required for the transmit filter by up to 90%, while lowering manufacturing costs and eliminating the need for interface design and programming.
In typical CDMA handset architectures, the transmit filter is incorporated between the driver amplifier and the power amplifier to reduce noise in the receive band, thereby enhancing receiver sensitivity. Request a free brochure from Avago Technologies ...
