Avago Technologies has shipped its 500 millionth infra-red transceiver since Agilent Technologies shipped its first IrDA-compliant transceiver for consumer applications in 1994.

Avago Technologies has shipped its 500 millionth infra-red (IR) transceiver since releasing its first IrDA-compliant transceiver for consumer applications in 1994 Avago was one of the founding members of the IrDA (Infra-red Data Association) and today has a wide range of products supporting data transfer rates from 115Kbit/s to 4Mbit/s, as well as one of the smallest IR transceivers on the market

"We're very pleased to announce this milestone, as it underscores our leadership position as the world's number one supplier of infra-red transceivers and a key supplier to leading mobile handset manufacturers", said Chee-Kien Lim, Worldwide Business Manager for Infra-Red Products in Avago Technologies' Optical Communication Solutions Division.

"We'll continue to work closely with our customers to bring innovative products to market".

Avago Technologies' 4 Mbit/s IR transceivers enable high-speed synchronisation of mobile phone data with PCs, and the wireless download of photos to printers.

Avago also offers IrFM (infra-red financial messaging) Point and Pay Profile version 1.0 software.

IrFM is a quick and seamless digital payment system for IrDA infra-red -enabled devices and point-of-sale terminals.

Avago is the only company that provides integrated software and hardware, which eliminates integration risks, saves money and speeds time to market.

Avago Technologies has achieved many milestones since the release of its first infra-red transceiver.

In 2002, Avago (then Agilent) introduced the world's smallest infra-red transceiver enclosed in a breakthrough 1.6mm package.

In 2003, Avago offered the first integrated hardware and software IrDA solution to ensure seamless operation between transceiver and software, and accelerate handset designers' time-to-market.

During the same year, the company introduced the industry's first IR transceiver integrated with universal IR remote control software, enabling mobile phones and PDAs to function as remote control devices, with a range of up to 8m, for TVs, VCRs, DVD players and other home appliances.

In 2004, Avago produced the industry's smallest encoder-decoder chip, measuring 0.8 mm high, with a footprint of 4.0 x 4.0mm, for use in mobile phones and other applications that require serial IR connectivity. Request free introductory details about products from Avago Technologies ...
