PIN diodes come in smaller plastic
packages
Three high-performance PIN diode chips come in low-cost RoHS-compliant lead-free SOD-323 plastic packages.
Avago Technologies has introduced three high-performance PIN diode chips in the low-cost, RoHS-compliant, lead-free SOD-323 (small outline diode) plastic package The two-pin SOD-323 package has dimensions of only 1.7 x 1.25 x 0.95mm, significantly smaller than the 3 x 2.5 x 1.1mm form-factor offered by the three-lead SOT (small outline transistor)-23, and 2 x 2.1 x 1.1mm offered by the SOT-323 packages

Hot-pluggable transceiver for Fibre Channel
Agilent Technologies has announced volume availability of its 2Gbit/s small-form-pluggable (SFP) fibre-optic transceiver for Fibre Channel storage area networks (SANs).
The three new products expand Avago Technologies' extensive range of surface-mount PIN diodes in industry-standard packages, including SOT-23, SOT-143, SOT-323 and SOT-363, while offering the same performance characteristics.
In the new SOD-323 PIN diode series, the Avago HSMP-389Z is optimised for RF switching applications where low insertion loss, low series resistance at low current, and low capacitance are required.
The HSMP-386Z is suitable for low-distortion and low-current switching applications as well as attenuation applications that require low current or power consumption.

Fibre Channel controller needs no memory
The HPFC-5400A Tachyon DX2 from Agilent Technologies is a 2Gbit/s dual-channel Fibre Channel controller that requires no external memory.
The HSMP-381Z is optimised for low distortion and high-linearity attenuation.
All versions are specified for operation at up to 3GHz and address wireless infrastructure, CATV, DBS LNB/multiswitch, mobile handset, cordless phone and WLAN applications.
"For today's RF applications that need only a single PIN diode, our customers prefer the smaller, less-expensive SOD-323 package over the SOT-23 and SOT-323", said Steve Saw CY, worldwide product marketing manager for silicon diode/RFIC products in Avago Technologies' Wireless Semiconductor Division.
"To meet their needs, we are expanding our product package portfolio, while maintaining the performance characteristics they require for their demanding, next-generation wireless designs".
The HSMP-389Z features low series resistance of 3.8ohm at 1mA, 1.8ohm at 5mA, 1.5ohm at 10mA (typical at 100MHz); low total capacitance of 0.20pF typical at reverse voltage of 5V at 1MHz; and short carrier lifetime of 200ns at forward current of 10mA and reverse current of 5mA.
The HSMP-386Z features series resistance of 15ohm at 1mA, 4.5ohm at 5mA, 1.5ohm at 10mA (typical at 100MHz); total capacitance of 0.23pF typical at 5V reverse voltage and 1MHz; and carrier lifetime of 500ns at 50mA forward current and 250mA reverse current.
The HSMP-381Z features series resistance of 70ohm at 1mA, 18ohm at 5mA, 7ohm at 10mA (typical at 100MHz); total capacitance of 0.30pF typical at 5V reverse voltage and 1MHz; and carrier lifetime of 1500ns at 50mA forward current and 250mA reverse current.
For applications requiring two or more PIN diodes, the three-lead SOT-23 or SOT-323, the four-lead SOT-143 or the six-lead SOT-363 are still a preferred choice, since they can contain up to four diodes in a single package, minimising board space.
The HSMP-389Z, the HSMP-386Z and the HSMP-381Z are available in 100-piece bulk packs and 3000 pieces on 7in tape-and-reel.
