Optical mouse sensors offer more options

An Avago Technologies product story

Avago Technologies is expanding its range of optical mouse sensors.

Avago Technologies is expanding its range of optical mouse sensors.

The company is introducing a sensor bundle for cordless laser-based mice and two extremely compact sensors for cordless and corded LED-based mice.

"Today, the vast majority of computer users prefer optical mice, not just gamers or those who need the highest possible position accuracy", said Ngoh Kee-Hane, Vice President and General Manager of Avago Technologies' Navigation Products Division.

"As the world's leading supplier of optical mouse sensors, Avago will continue to introduce products that enable manufacturers of both cordless and corded mice to offer new levels of user satisfaction at every price point".

Avago's ADNS-7050 LaserStream optical mouse sensor for cordless mice can provide up to 12 months of operation using two alkaline AA cells (3.0V nominal).

The LaserStream sensor operates on more surfaces than LED-based optical mice, including painted metal, polished wood-grain, glossy photo paper, translucent plastic, frosted glass and many other previously difficult surfaces.

The ADNS-7050 sensor combines 2.7 to 3.6V operation with self-adjusting, power-saving modes for longer battery life.

It provides motion detection at speeds of up to 20in/s, acceleration of up to 8g and selectable 400 and 800 counts per inch resolution.

It includes an adjustable frame rate for optimum performance, and the sensor incorporates an internal oscillator to eliminate the need for a clock input.

The output is a four-wire serial port with a motion-detect pin.

The LaserStream sensor is supplied as a bundle consisting of the sensor itself, the ADNV-6340 single-mode, vertical-cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL), which enables best-in-class reliability and up to 2kV ESD, a round or trim lens, and a VCSEL assembly clip.

The parts interlock on a customer-designed baseplate and form a complete and compact laser-mouse tracking system that requires no precision optical alignment during manufacturing.

The LaserStream bundle provides true laser tracking performance and class 1 eye safety.

Avago's ADNS-5030 sensor for cordless mice is supplied in one of the industry's smallest optical sensor packages (9.9 x 12.85 x 4.32mm).

The sensor's frame rate automatically adjusts based on the surface characteristics for optimum performance with up to 1000 counts per inch resolution, speeds up to 14in/s, and acceleration rates of up to 2g.

It provides automatic power conservation when the mouse is stationary, and includes an integrated oscillator and LED driver.

The ADNS-5030 along with the ADNS-5100 lens, ADNS-5200 clip and HLMP-ED80 LED form a complete tracking system for wireless mice, with the smallest footprint available.

Avago's ADNS-5020 for corded mice is also supplied in the industry's smallest package and incorporates an integrated oscillator and an LED driver.

The ADNS-5020 operates from 5V and features a self-adjusting frame rate with selectable 500 and 1000 counts per inch resolution, speeds up to 14in/s and 2g acceleration.

The ADNS-5020 also mates with the ADNS-5100 lens, the ADNS-5200 clip and the HLMP-ED80 LED.

Samples of these products are available now through Avago's direct sales channel and worldwide distribution partners.
