Four-channel parallel transceiver boosts
bandwidth

A four-channel parallel optic transceiver module operates at 3.125Gbit/s per channel for an aggregate bandwidth of 12.5Gbit/s and a link distance up to 350m.

Avago Technologies has introduced a four-channel parallel optic transceiver module that operates at 3.125Gbit/s per channel for an aggregate bandwidth of 12.5Gbit/s and a link distance up to 350m This distance and high-bandwidth capacity gives network designers the flexibility to create larger systems in central offices or large enterprises

In addition, Avago is working on the industry's first parallel optic modules to provide 5Gbit/s transmission speed per channel, allowing an aggregate bandwidth of 60Gbit/s.

Avago Technologies' HFBR-7934Z parallel optic transceiver module is among the first in the industry to comply with RoHS 6 (Restriction of Hazardous Substances, EU Directive 2002/95/EC), and it features excellent EMI (electromagnetic interference) performance.

The module helps network and telecom equipment manufacturers meet the growing demand for terabit data transfer in interconnects for high-end routers, server clusters (switch fabric interconnect) and other high-performance computing applications.

It also solves the data capacity and space problems inherent with copper interconnects and existing optical transceivers.

The HFBR-7934Z parallel optic transceiver module is compliant with the POP4 (pluggable optics four-channel) multisource agreement, and combines an 850nm VCSEL with custom laser-driver integrated circuitry.

The module provides four transmit channels and four receive channels in a single, space-efficient, pluggable transceiver package.

Each channel operates up to 3.125Gbit/s, compared with the 2.7Gbit/s per channel bandwidth of previous POP4-compliant modules.

The HFBR-7934Z parallel optic module enables cost-effective, high-throughput interconnections between multiple chassis or racks of equipment in central offices or large enterprises.

The modules can provide interconnects up to 150m on 500MHz.km fibre, and 350m on 2000MHz.km fibre.

The transceiver receptacle uses the popular MTP/MPO ribbon fibre connector interface, and the electrical connection is made via the pluggable 10 x 10 Meg-Array connector system.

Its integrated heatsink provides exceptional thermal dissipation.
