Agilent Technologies has announced a new serial infra-red (SIR) transceiver that is ideal for new-generation personal information devices, such as PDAs, which are becoming increasingly thinner.
Some of the targeted applications which require high resolution, temperatures and frequencies include robotic arms, wafer handling machines, and fluid control in medical equipment.
The AEDA-3200 module features three channel optical incremental outputs with an RS422 line driver for clean signal propagation to provide resolutions up to 30,000 cycle/rev after 4x decoding.
The miniature device, which is about the size of a sewing thimble, can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to + 25C.
Designed as a modular package, the AEDA-3200 is an encoder module that comes complete with codewheel and sensor, making it very easy for manufacturers to design the part into their motor designs.

Avago's AEDA-3200 is part of the AEDA-3300 optical kit encoder offering announced in March.
The AEDA-3200 module encoder is a lower cost option featuring resolutions from 2500 to 7500 cycle/rev.
The AEDA-3300 is a kit encoder featuring resolutions from 600 to 20,000 cycle/rev and does not require an alignment tool for installation.
Both of these encoder series are ideal for a variety of motors used in industrial applications.
