Comtech AHA will present a tutorial titled "Using compression in storage area networks" at the Storage Networking World Conference.
The conference is hosted by Computerworld in partnership with the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and will be held this week from 24th to 27th October 2005 in Orlando, Florida.
Storage Networking World is the leading conference for IT and storage professionals to learn more about the challenges in today's business environments and the solutions available to meet and overcome these challenges.
The tutorial presented by Comtech AHA will educate users on the benefits of implementing lossless data compression and how it is able to reduce the impact of data being stored to media.
The tutorial will also address the issue of how compression serves as a method to greatly increase the efficiency of utilisation of storage media.
A discussion will be held to define the advantages and disadvantages of the various lossless data compression solutions available for storage applications, including algorithms and the platforms.
Participants will learn where lossless data compression should be integrated to provide an efficient method for tomorrow's storage appliances to perform snapshots and other continuous data protection techniques.
It will also show how a storage platform that supports compression will add value and ROI to a storage infrastructure.
Comtech AHA has been developing lossless data compression solutions for over 15 years and offers a wide range of compression products including integrated circuits, PCI-X boards and intellectual property cores.
Comtech AHA's newest compression technology implements the open standard compression algorithm GZIP.
The AHA362-PCIX compression/decompression accelerator is a half-height, short PCI-X card with data throughput of over 3.0Gbit/s.
The AHA362-PCIX was developed to increase the data transfer rates in applications such as storage area networks, web servers, web accelerators and web traffic appliances including load balancers, firewall VPN servers and integrated routers/switches.
