Aries Electronics has a new centre probe RF test socket designed specifically for use with Delta handlers The new test sockets incorporate built-in, replaceable, aligning features to accommodate the Delta nest, ensuring maximum speed and ease of use

The patented centre probe contact of the new Aries test socket provides the same test height regardless of device lead pitch.

The socket body can be reused for multiple devices with only the interposer needing replacement.

Since the same height probe is always used, the handler setup is always the same.

This helps reduce overall production cost.

The socket also incorporates an integral hard stop to facilitate highly accurate device placement and probe activation.

To further speed operation, solderless spring probes enable the socket to pressure mount to the test board.

Specifications for the new test socket include: a probe self inductance of 0.51nH; insertion loss of -1dB at 18GHz; contact resistance of less than 70mohm; and contact forces of 12-15g per contact for devices with 0.50 to 0.65mm pitch, and 17-20g per contact for devices with 0.80mm pitch or larger.

The standard material of the patented centre probe contact is highly conductive copper alloy with nickel/gold plating.

As with all Aries sockets, the new RF test socket is available in custom materials, platings, sises and configurations to suit specific customer applications.

Pricing for a Delta handler-compatible centre probe test socket for an 1156-pin BGA package starts at $2467 for one piece.

Delivery is six weeks ARO.
