Pro audio DAC boasts virtually flat
noise floor
The AK4396 is a 192kHz 24bit stereo digital-to-analogue convertor for premium sound cards, DVD/SACD players, AV receivers and other professional audio playback applications.
AKM (Asahi Kasei Microsystems) Semiconductor has released the AK4396, a 192kHz 24bit stereo digital-to-analogue convertor for premium sound cards, DVD/SACD players, AV receivers and other professional audio playback applications Based on the previously released AK4393/4/5 high-end DAC series, the AK4396 delivers further improvements by using AKM's advanced multibit architecture, and it achieves a virtually flat noise floor up to 300kHz for a superior playback environment

Audio ADC has professional aspirations
The AK5359 is a low-cost high-quality audio A/D convertor for audio applications in professional, consumer equipment and automotive markets.
The AK4396 features dynamic range performance of 120dB.
In addition to excellent antijitter characteristics, the switched capacitor DAC incorporates AKM's unique low-power circuits, which maintain high performance with a very low power consumption of 180mW.
Features of the AK4396 include a dedicated input port for direct stream digital (DSD) data input, allowing switching on the DAC side between PCM data and DSD data.
A built-in lowpass filter dedicated to DSD data allows the SACD format "Scarlet book" filter characteristics to be achieved easily by adding a simple external analogue filter.
The same output level is set for both PCM data and DSD data; so that digital volume control and zero detect functions behave in the same way for both PCM data and DSD data.
This has the advantage of permitting control of playback levels irrespective of the data format, and together with the other performance enhancements, makes the AK4396 ideal for professional-quality DVD/DVD-audio/SACD players, AV receivers and digital mixers.
The AK4396 is available in a 28-pin VSOP package, and is priced at $2.60 in 1000 unit quantities.
Pin compatibility with the AK4393/4 provides a simple upgrade path for AK4393/4-based systems.
Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
