Simple solution to driving steppers
The SLA7051M is a constant-current two-phase unipolar stepper-motor driver ICs with built-in translator circuitry for ease of operation in office automation or industrial applications.
The SLA7051M from Allegro MicroSystems Europe is the first in a family of constant-current, two-phase unipolar stepper-motor driver ICs with built-in translator circuitry for ease of operation in office automation or industrial applications Combining low-power CMOS logic with high-current, high-voltage power FET outputs, the new device provides the complete control and drive functions for a two-phase unipolar stepper motor

Blue light-emitting diodes available from Allegro
A range of blue light-emitting diodes developed by Sanken Electric is now available from Allegro MicroSystems Europe.
It combines internal fixed 'off' time with pulsewidth-modulation (PWM) control of the output current, and is packaged in a power multichip module (PMCM).
Simply inputting one pulse on the step input causes the motor to take one step.
There are no phase sequence tables, high-frequency control lines or complex interfaces to program.
As a result, the device is ideally suited to applications where a complex microprocessor is unavailable or overburdened, because the critical stepping control functions are integrated and allow it to run independently of the processor.
The CMOS logic section provides the sequencing logic, direction, full half/step control, synchronous/asynchronous PWM operation, and a 'sleep' function.
Inputs are compatible with 3.3 or 5V control signals, and the device is capable of output currents of +/-2A.
For PWM current control, the maximum output current is determined by the user's selection of a reference voltage and sensing resistor.
Full-step and half-step operation is externally selectable.
Two-phase drive operation energises two adjacent phases in each detent position, offering an improved torque-speed product, greater detent torque and lower susceptibility to motor resistance.
Half-step excitation alternates between the single-phase and two-phase modes to provide an eight-step sequence.
Ground clamp and flyback diodes provide protection against inductive transients, and special power-up sequencing is not required.
The SLA7051M is supplied in an 18-pin dual-inline power-tab package.
The tab is at ground potential and needs no isolation.
For high-current or high-frequency applications, external heatsinking may be required.
The device is rated for continuous operation between -20 and +85C.
