Power module has intelligence for white goods

An Allegro MicroSystems Europe product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Jul 6, 2004

The Sanken SSM1000M series is a highly integrated intelligent power module for use in three-phase motor inverters for domestic-appliance controls.

The Sanken SSM1000M series is a highly integrated intelligent power module for use in three-phase motor inverters for domestic-appliance controls.

The new device incorporates a number of components, including IGBTs, fast-recovery diodes (FRDs), a high-voltage integrated circuit, bipolar/CMOS/DMOS IC, power shunt resistance and bootstrap diodes for high-side driving in a single compact transfer-moulded single-inline package.

Output voltage and current capability are 600V and 15 or 25A.

The compact transfer-mould package features an electrically floating case, and offers a low thermal resistance (down to 2.5C/W) between junction and case.

A built-in shunt resistor is provided for overcurrent detection, and no photocoupler or drive transformer is required.

The low saturation voltage IGBT and soft-recovery FRD are complemented by a CMOS (5V) logic input.

Built-in protection includes an undervoltage lockout circuit (with automatic restart), overcurrent protection circuit, and output crossover current protection.

Sanken power semiconductor products are available in Europe via Allegro MicroSystems Europe, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sanken Electric, and its network of distributors.
