Step-down regulator has wide input range
The A8499 is a versatile high-voltage step-down regulator integrated circuit with an input voltage range from 8 to 50V.
The new A8499 from Allegro MicroSystems Europe is a versatile high-voltage step-down regulator integrated circuit with an input voltage range from 8 to 50V.
This general-purpose buck regulator IC offers a user-adjustable 1.2-24V output at a current of up to 1.5A with a flat efficiency curve across a wide operating current range.
It features an integrated DMOS switch, eliminating the need for an external FET, and offers adjustable fixed off time and low shutdown current for maximum battery life and low power drain.
The A8499 is designed for use in conjunction with an external clamping diode, inductor and filter capacitor, with the off time determined by an external resistor.
It will operate in both continuous and discontinuous modes.
An internal blanking circuit filters out transients caused by the reverse recovery of the external clamp diode, with a typical blanking time of 200ns.
The output voltage is adjustable from 1.2 to 24V using a resistor divider and the built-in 1.2V 3% reference.
The new regulator is ideally suited to a variety of applications needing a buck regulator with an 8-50V input voltage and 1.5A output current.
Typical applications include consumer electronics, uninterruptible power supplies, 12V automotive lighter-socket powered applications (portable DVDs etc), automotive 9-16V input systems with higher-voltage protection, point of sale (POS) equipment, and industrial applications based on 24 or 36V bus voltages.
The A8499 is supplied in a compact eSOIC-8L 8-pin surface-mount package.
