The Aplix JBlend Java platform has begun shipping in a second PCS Vision-enabled phone from Sprint, this one manufactured by Hitachi.

JBlend technology has enjoyed unparalleled success in the Japanese market and, with its shipment in the new P300 PCS phone from Hitachi, continues to build momentum in the USA.

JBlend technology is the most deployed Java execution environment for mobile phones throughout the world, having been incorporated into 32 wireless handset models from 11 different manufacturers to date.

At the end of July this year, JBlend technology has shipped in more than 10 million units of mobile phones and home electronics devices, including mini disc camcorders, digital photo printers, digital image albums, and high-definition televisions (HDTV).

Hitachi has implemented JBlend technology for the new P300 PCS phone, which incorporates the Java 2 Platform Micro Edition's connected limited device configuration (CLDC), mobile information device profile (MIDP), Sprint PCS extensions and Aplix's patent pending KFTT acceleration technology.

This comprehensive platform enables Sprint customers to enjoy an enhanced experience through the graphical, personalised, and interactive wireless data services distributed in the USA by Sprint.

Users will have the ability to run enhanced games, maps, and productivity applications that can be downloaded to the phone wirelessly over-the-air.

"We know from experience that we can absolutely rely on the JBlend platform to deliver a reliable and robust Java environment for mobile phones", said Shinichi Hagiya, General Manager of the Mobile Information and Communication Appliance Division of Hitachi.

"In providing our first digital wireless phones for the US market, we turned to the partner that was integral in delivering a complete J2ME solution for our mobile phones in Japan Aplix Corporation".

"It's very gratifying to see our JBlend technology used by the same manufacturers in both Japan and the US", said Ryu Koriyama, chief executive officer and chairman of Aplix Corporation.

"Hitachi's decision to select the JBlend platform as it enters the US digital wireless phone market speaks volumes about the quality of our relationship and the tremendous value JBlend technology delivers for their products".
