Wireless modem module gains GPS functionality
Alpha Micro's AMC1802GSXLA dual-band GPRS/GSM embedded radio modem module is now available with optional GPS (Global Positioning System) functionality.
The always-on GPRS modem modules will allow Trintech's Compact 9400 terminals to complete a card transaction in about seven seconds from anywhere with GPRS coverage.
GPRS tariffs take account of the amount of data sent, rather than the time spent connected.
As an always-on connection, the small amounts of data can be relayed to the card issuer or bank quickly, cheaply and securely.
The short transaction time has generated strong initial interest among Trintech's existing customer base in Germany.
With high expectations to build on this success across Europe, the initial order of 5000 modem modules is anticipated to be just the start for a product that will service a growing market.
Christos Papakyriacou, Managing Director, Alpha Micro Components, who, along with Sales Director, John Moore, has enjoyed a 10-year business relationship with Trintech, said of the deal: "We were in the right place at the right time with the right product for Trintech".
"With new EMV regulations poised to kick-start sales of wireless terminals, Trintech needed to get a product to market quickly".
"Alpha Micro Components' design expertise, product knowledge, and commitment to our customers' requirements resulted in a minimal delay from the initial discussion to product delivery".
"A 'buffer stock' of modules will also allow us to supply Trintech at short notice in the future".
Michael Martin, Product Development Manager, Trintech, concluded: "Alpha Micro has a good track record with us, and understands how our product range works".
"It was a simple task for them just to emulate the existing modem and drop in their GPRS module".
"A combination of their unerring professionalism, design expertise and profound knowledge of the EPOS market won them the contract".
