Pick and place machines configured to order
AlternativeSMT has developed an innovative approach to selling second user SMT assembly equipment by supplying Fuji QP242 pick and place machines configured to order.
AlternativeSMT, one of Europe's largest resellers of refurbished electronic assembly equipment, has developed an innovative approach to selling second user SMT assembly equipment by supplying Fuji QP242 pick and place machines configured to order.
Typically, on the second-user market, a buyer would have to accept a machine "as-is", with only the options and configurations that are on the machine when bought.
If they do not fit the customer's specification exactly, little can be done to upgrade or change the configuration without going back to the original equipment manufacturer for costly upgrades.
AlternativeSMT has changed this with its new approach to supplying Fuji QP242 machines.
The QP242s are a modular based machine which, when bought new, are configured to fit each customer's individual requirements.
They are highly versatile machines that can be configured to place chips from 1005 to 74mm2 as well as BGA, Micro BGA and QFPs.
AlternativeSMT is able to reflect this degree of customisation as it has the engineering knowledge and ability to take in a variety of QP242 modules and reconfigure them to fit its clients' needs.
As well as having the correct engineering knowledge, AlternativeSMT is also able to identify the right modules to purchase in the second user market.
The right skills in purchasing QP242 modules have been developed by AlternativeSMT through its long history of purchasing second user goods.
Roger Matthews, European Sales Manager, commented: "It is our combination of purchasing experience and engineering ability that allows us to offer this unique proposition".
The move into customising equipment means that AlternativeSMT has put the flexibility back into the second-user market where it has previously been lacking.
Peter Fraiman, Managing Director said: "We are very proud of what we can achieve here at Alternative and we feel that our engineering knowledge and knowhow has provided us the ability to suit our customers needs, at a price to rival the new equipment manufacturers".
AlternativeSMT has configured and supplied more than 25 different QP242 systems in the past 18 months.
Llew Simmonds, Head of Engineering commented: "We have always said that we do more than just blow the dust out at Alternative and we think that the recent number of QP242 installations has really proved that you can have a pre-owned piece of equipment that it customisable to your needs".
AlternativeSMT has recently opened up a new 2300m2 refurbishment facility in Scotland.
Visitors are welcome at this facility by appointment.
