AMI Semiconductor (AMIS) has introduced a low-cost clock generator that will save space and reduce component count in high-performance MPEG-2 applications such as DVD players, DVD add-on cards for multimedia PCs, digital HDTV systems, and set-top boxes The FS6217-01 is a dual phase-locked-loop (PLL) CMOS clock generator IC that generates the timing frequencies needed for digital video/audio applications based on a 27MHz master clock

By using the device, four system clocks can be derived from the single 27MHz reference frequency.

Each output clock has a 0ppm synthesis error rate for precise cycling of signals and the low cumulative clock jitter needed for high-performance DACs and ADCs.

To save space on the board, reduce device count and reduce costs, the FS6217-01 consolidates the functions of several external components within the system.

The standard package is a 20-pin SSOP with a low-voltage logic interface and a dual 5 and 3.3V power supply.

A 3.3V only version is also available, as are custom frequency patterns and packages.
