Intersil process comes on stream for second source
AMI Semiconductor has won a contract to second source an important semiconductor manufacturing process for Intersil.
AMI Semiconductor (AMIS) has won a contract to second source an important semiconductor manufacturing process for Intersil.
Intersil's process is currently being brought online by a combined team of AMIS and Intersil personnel at AMI Semiconductor's 5in wafer fabrication facilities in Pocatello, with full production slated for early June.
This new manufacturing capacity will ensure Intersil customers a second source for a variety of components used in the design of desktop PCs and servers worldwide.
"After careful deliberation, we are pleased to have selected AMI Semiconductor for parallel manufacturing of our high-demand Endura power ICs", said Rick Furtney, Vice President and General Manager of Intersil's High Performance Analog Products Group.
"AMIS is a well-known foundry that has the facilities and expertise to meet our needs with the same high quality as our internal facility.
AMIS foundry capacity will allow us to dual-source our high-run ICs to meet the needs of growing markets".
"Our partnership with Intersil is all about helping to ensure Intersil's success in their key end markets", said Rocke Acree, Foundry Marketing Manager.
"AMI Semiconductor's 34 years of mixed-signal foundry experience, broad technology portfolio, and process longevity makes AMIS an ideal choice for technology leaders such as Intersil who are looking for a strategic, long-term second source partner".
AMI Semiconductor has the capability to quickly and efficiently port processes into its fabs to satisfy the second sourcing and process longevity requirements of industry leaders worldwide.
In fact, AMIS installs one or two custom processes per year.
In the last 10 years, AMIS has brought online more than 15 custom processes or products for its customers.
AMIS takes pride in its reputation for keeping needed processes around to accommodate its customers' long-term needs.
Many of AMI Semiconductor's manufacturing processes have been available to customers for more than 15 years, and most have shown no sign of slowing down.
AMIS appreciates that these products are used in automotive, medical, industrial and other applications that require long-term support.
The partnership with Intersil highlights AMI Semiconductor's ability, experience and expertise to successfully transfer processes from other manufacturing sites.
A few other recent custom process installations by AMIS include: 2-micron digital processes for automotive customers; digital and mixed-signal processes for another large automotive OEM; a mixed-signal process with separate Vt transistors for a medical company; digital and mixed-signal processes for a communication OEM; and a bipolar process for an industrial/automotive customer.
