Evaluation for novel power failure chip
A new evaluation kit allows engineers to begin testing and developing space-saving low-component-count solutions for the accurate measurement of power failure durations in industrial applications.
A new evaluation kit from AMI Semiconductor (AMIS) provides a plug-and-play solution for engineers to quickly begin testing and developing space-saving, low component count solutions for the accurate measurement of power failure durations in industrial applications.
Based around the recently launched AMIS-70020 power failure elapsed time counter IC, the A new evaluation kit from AMI Semiconductor (AMIS) provides a plug-and-play solution for engineers to quickly begin testing and developing space-saving, low component count solutions for the accurate measurement of power failure durations in industrial applications.
Based around the recently launched AMIS-70020 power failure elapsed time counter IC, the AMIS EVK-70020 evaluation kit will help designers to reduce the component count, cost and time-to-market for industrial power failure duration monitoring systems.
These systems are typically used in factory automation, process control, and other applications where accurate knowledge of power failure duration is needed for equipment and material protection.
AMIS has designed the new kit to allow users to begin the evaluation and development process as quickly and as easily as possible.
Once the evaluation board is connected to the USB port of a PC it is automatically detected and powered, eliminating the need for an external power supply or the installation of software drivers.
The board allows the user to evaluate the AMIS-70020 in a "stand alone IC evaluation-mode" or in a "system integration mode".
In the system integration mode, an external voltage supply to be monitored can be connected directly to board, allowing the user to test the AMIS-70020 IC in its target application.
Each kit is supplied with an evaluation board, five samples of the AMIS-70020 IC, a USB cable, and a CD ROM.
The CD-ROM combines a graphical user interface for programming and control of the IC, with a step-by-step user guide for the kit and detailed documentation on the AMIS-70020 part.
Using the software, designers can quickly and easily set key parameters including selection of either the USB powered or external voltage source and the simulation of a variety of power failure conditions.
Developed specifically for industrial environments, the AMIS-70020 is a compact IC that integrates all necessary counter functionality along with an internal 1kHz oscillator, power management circuitry, and a two-wire interface.
The IC offers autonomous stop/start operation and can measure power failure durations of up to five hours with a one second resolution.
Using the device, designers can reduce their overall bill of materials (BOM) by eliminating the need for external components including oscillators, diodes, and additional power circuitry.
The new AMIS EVK-70020 evaluation kit is available from, AMI Semiconductor at a cost of Eur 99.00.
