AMIS reorganises mixed-signal business

AMI Semiconductor is to integrate its foundry services business into its mixed-signal business unit.

Reorganisation at AMI Semiconductor (AMIS) will see the company integrate its foundry services business into its mixed-signal business unit.

The realignment will allow AMIS to better serve its customers by offering a full range of options from ASSP products to custom designs and foundry services within the same business unit.

As a result, the company's business segment reporting information will be consolidated and third quarter financial results will be reported on two business segments, integrated mixed-signal products and structured digital products.

The mixed-signal products segment will incorporate four product lines which are: mixed-signal products focused on the automotive and industrial segments; the medical and wireless product line centred on implantable medical and audiology devices; peripheral imaging products that will include the peripheral imaging business of Flextronics on close of the acquisition; and a new product line that will focus on opportunities in high-voltage products for communication applications.

The company has also appointed Mike O'Neill as Senior Vice President of the company's structured digital products business unit.

In his new role, O'Neill will be responsible for leading the company's expanding structured digital business that will include the integration of the Flextronics digital business on close of the acquisition.

He will also continue to extend the company's leadership position in FPGA-to-ASIC conversions with innovative structured digital technologies and methodologies focusing those activities to help customers maximise profitability and minimise time to market.

O'Neill's experience covers a lengthy career in the semiconductor industry, spanning more than 15 years.

He was most recently a general partner at Kodiak Venture Partners, an early stage venture capital firm focused on communications/IT, semiconductor and software investments.

O'Neill has also served in senior engineering and management positions at Conexant Systems, Philsar Semiconductor and IBM.

O'Neill earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
