Broadcom has used AMI Semiconductor as a design and technology partner for two new highly integrated power sourcing equipment (PSE) controllers for use in its power over Ethernet (PoE) products.

AMIS was selected to work with Broadcom on the BCM59101 and BCM59103 PSE controllers based on its recognised leadership and expertise in providing high-quality, robust silicon products for use in complex, high-voltage applications.

Chris King, CEO, AMI Semiconductor said: "AMIS is thrilled to team with the undisputed leader in the provision of silicon solutions for broadband communications".

"Successfully leveraging our knowledge and expertise in providing highly-integrated and robust silicon solutions for demanding markets, such as automotive, has enabled us to assist Broadcom in delivering an industry-leading PoE product for the telecomms market, positioning AMIS well for supporting future communication customers who require high-voltage silicon products".

The four-port controllers are designed to provide power to networked devices in enterprise, small-to-medium business (SMB) and residential environments using the Ethernet cable infrastructure already in place for transferring voice, video and data.

The products deliver 15.4 and 37W per port, supporting IEEE802.3af-compliant and emerging high power applications such as video phones, enterprise access points, residential gateways/routers, surveillance cameras, retail point-of-sale readers and security card scanners.
