Lloyd Instruments has developed a cost effective testing system specifically to test electrical cables, insulated wires and switches such as keypads on mobile phones and membrane switches The device consists of a precision-engineered multifunction testing unit used for testing electrical switch contact resistance, the crushability of core cable, and the compressibility of insulated wires

It is designed to measure any interruption in the flow of electrical current in the cable, wire or switch sample when subjected to compressive forces applied by a materials testing system.

Ideal for checking the integrity of plastic insulation when force is applied, the unit will indicate which conductors either shorted together or broke through the outer insulation.

The unit simply plugs into a test machine from Lloyd Instruments Plus or EZ ranges, and is controlled fully by the machine and the company's powerful Nexygen MT software with Ondio, the advanced application builder software.

Operating scripts for Ondio software, written especially by Lloyd Instruments' developers, are freely available to customers.

A DC power output can also be introduced for other instruments such as potentiometers or thermocouples for additional test requirements such as the ability to plot temperature during testing.

The cable and switch test system is designed to appeal to electronic components and cable manufacturers as well as the building industry keen to integrate an affordable testing solution into their quality control or R and D applications.
