UPS with lightning-strike compensation guarantee
The Back-UPS ES 350 and Back-UPS ES 500 from APC provide continuous power and hardware protection, incorporate country specific outlets and offer features normally only found on expensive units.
The new Back-UPS ES 350 and Back-UPS ES 500 from American Power Conversion (APC) provide continuous power and hardware protection for desktops and peripherals, incorporate country-specific outlets and offer a range of standard features normally found on more expensive units aimed at office environments.
These include file saving, auto-shutdown software as well as telephone/fax/modem and DSL line surge protection to stop all 'back-door' surges.
So confident is APC that these new home and home office UPSs provide the level of protection demanded by today's home PC users, they now offer a "Lifetime Equipment Protection Policy" (EPP) which guarantees up to 100,000 Euros/ GBP 50,000 in compensation should properly connected equipment be damaged by lightning strikes "for as long as a customer owns the product" (valid in EU countries only).
APC also offers a two-year product warranty on these products.
"Many home computer users have become very dependent on their system and its contents but may not realise the problems a power interruption or power surge can bring", explains Joe Loberti, general manager, APC's Consumer Network Solutions Division.
"These range from simple keyboard lock-ups to corrupted data and from hardware degradation to system crashes resulting in total data loss".
Despite their compact size, the Back-UPS ES 350 (350VA-225W) and Back-UPS ES 500 (500VA-325W) incorporate five high powered outlets.
Three provide battery back up while all five offer high performance surge protection.
The use of country specific outlets allows the equipment the user would like to protect and power, to be directly connected to the battery backup unit.
USB connectivity is standard and allows user easily to configure file saving and auto-shutdown UPS software.
The system supports Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98, and Mac OS 9 (9.0.4 and higher) operating systems.
Users need no UPS experience as the new models are simple to use and easy to maintain.
Self-diagnostics, push-button overload reset and intelligent battery management are standard features.
Designed to maximise battery performance, the battery management feature continuously monitors the battery and will notify the user when it needs replacing.
The long-lasting battery is user replaceable allowing the user to save costs while extending the life of the UPS.
Other features include user configurable transfer points, visual and audible alarms for overload, low battery, and on-battery when running solely on battery power.
The Back-UPS ES 350 and 500 models will have an estimated reseller price of 129,99 Euros (GBP 82.99) and 149,99 Euros (GBP 95.50) respectively and are inclusive of VAT.
New models with French outlets will start shipping in June 2001 through retail and distribution, German and UK models during third quarter 2001.
Patents are pending on these products.
