Set-top box (STB) vendor Amino has been awarded a contract from the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) for its AmiNET100 STB.

Set-top box (STB) vendor Amino has been awarded a contract from the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) for its AmiNET100 STB.

CYTA, the leading provider of advanced telecommunications services in Cyprus, covering a population of approximately 750,000, will initially use the device for the domestic consumer market before extending it to networked digital video systems, such as those in hotels.

The small, low cost, high functionality STB has been enhanced with NDS's VideoGuard content protection and rights management software, part of NDS Synamedia's broadband solution.

"This contract confirms what an appealing offering we have for operators who want to deploy secure broadband IP services", said Bob Giddy, CEO of Amino.

"The AmiNET100 meets the demands of multimedia content distribution while providing significant cost benefits by reducing the capex requirements of network installations".

"Amino's STB provides us with all the functionality and flexibility we require at low cost", said Photios Savvides, Deputy General Manager at CYTA.

"We can now offer our customers value-added multimedia services, such as video on-demand, as well as interactive digital TV".
