Westwood heads up hardware team

Amino to embed Java in consumer e-business systems
Amino Communications has developed a Java environment aimed at the embedded systems market - set-top boxes, PDAs, gateways, seat-back entertainment and telematics devices.
Most recently of Pace Microtechnology, he has a wealth of experience of successful STB product designs for companies in and around Cambridge, including Sinclair Research and Cambridge Computer.
While at Pace, Westwood successfully managed, researched, designed and developed various IP-connected digital STBs and home gateways.
Before this, as a self-employed consultant, he was involved with the Cambridge "video on demand" trial where he designed and developed the consumer access "final drop" equipment into initial trial quantities.
Prior to this, he cofounded Cambridge Computer with Sir Clive Sinclair in 1986.
Here, he developed the prototype Astra STB including the tuner and persuaded the company to take on the project, creating a team to design and develop the dish and receiver.
He was also responsible for leading the company into DVB at its inception.
"Jim's exceptional track record of product design in various fields of electronics and his understanding of the IP STB marketplace will be of great benefit to us", said Paul Fellows, Director of Engineering at Amino.
"His experience, particularly in specialist areas such as RF design, will further strengthen our award-winning design team and the process of creating new and exciting electronic products".
