Amino to embed Java in consumer e-business systems
Amino Communications has developed a Java environment aimed at the embedded systems market - set-top boxes, PDAs, gateways, seat-back entertainment and telematics devices.
The move reinforces Amino's commitment to consolidate its presence in Eastern Europe and follows a recent major contract with Slovenia's leading ISP, SiOL, to supply the set-top boxes for its new IPTV service.
Central and Eastern Europe is an attractive market for IPTV given the relatively new telecoms infrastructure and availability of broadband networks.
IPTV enables interactive TV services and video-on-demand (VoD) movies to be delivered over broadband telephone networks.
Amino's low-cost, highly integrated set-top boxes allow subscribers to watch digital-quality television and access a wider selection of movies than previously available, all with full interactivity.
Iskratel is a leading developer of integrated communications solutions specialising in fixed and mobile telephony, and next-generation networks.
Its largest presence is in the CIS markets and home market of Slovenia but the company also has outlet channels in Germany, the Balkans and other Eastern European markets.
Under the terms of the agreement, Iskratel will act as a distributor for set-top boxes, reducing delivery times, and enhancing customer support throughout Eastern Europe.
In addition, Iskratel will also seek to integrate the Amino products into other solutions provided by the company.
"Products such as the AmiNET110 set-top box will enable Iskratel to offer service providers a cost-effective way of delivering more channels, on-demand services, internet and e-commerce to customers", said Mitja Jelnikar, Sales Director at Iskratel.
"Soon, many more homes and institutions will benefit from enhanced multimedia technology".
