Alphamosaic, Tokyo FM and Vitec are to work together to produce the technology behind handsets which will deliver digital radio and multimedia to people on the move.

Tokyo FM, the leading broadcaster in Japan with millions of listeners, will be launching a terrestrial digital radio broadcast this year, which will transmit audio, video and data content over the VHF channel, giving superb performance on the move - for example watching a favourite TV programme on the subway.

Alphamosaic, the industry leader in video for the mobile world, has developed a processor that enables a full suite of multimedia applications including video streaming.

The processor, which is based on VideoCore technology, offers the highest quality and lowest power video processing in the world.

Vitec is developing hardware design, software developing and total integration for mobile receivers.

This reference design allows all mobile manufacturers to easily add the digital A/V receiving features to most mobile products.

The target products are mobile phones, PDAs, DSCs, portable AV players and digital A/V receivers.
