Multimedia core steps up a grade
Following the widespread adoption of VideoCore technology in mobile phone and portable multimedia product designs, Alphamosaic has developed the advanced VideoCore II processing engine.
The company has recently announced a collaboration with a major broadcasting company and system houses in Japan.
Trials of this world first application are expected to start in Japan before the end of 2003 and Alan Henderson, Alphamosaic's Vice President of Sales and Business Development believes that the company is ideally placed to capitalise on what is expected to be world wide consumer demand for television enabled mobiles.
"While much of the industry is still struggling to deliver high quality, low power consumption video to mobile devices, Alphamosaic has not only solved that problem but is driving the industry forward by harnessing this emerging technology for consumers and realising the dream of embedding television functionality into mobiles", says Henderson, adding: "Until now, the greatest impediment to introducing mobiles that can receive television broadcast signals and reconstitute them as images has been appalling picture quality when on the move".
With VideoCore, that problem has been overcome and for the first time ever, consumers will be able to enjoy their favourite television programmes while they are on the move, without having to endure picture "ghosting" or other forms of signal corruption due to local interference.
Not only will VideoCore deliver pin sharp, reliable picture quality but its low power consumption characteristics mean that consumers can watch television for hours, rather than minutes.
This latest breakthrough further demonstrates that mobile handsets are evolving into multimedia entertainment centres believes Henderson who says: "We will be introducing this emerging technology to our existing handset manufacturing customers with a view to capitalising on the global potential this opportunity presents".
Target products are mobile phones, PDAs, DSCs, portable AV players and digital A/V receivers.
